Abstract

Additive manufacturing technologies, commonly referred to as 3D printing, have undergone rapid development and gained increasingly widespread adoption in the automotive industry over the past decade. Beyond their established role in product design and prototyping, these technologies are becoming increasingly important in motor vehicle maintenance, including repair, restoration, and the production of replacement parts. This paper presents an overview of the principal additive manufacturing technologies and examines their application at three distinct levels: industrial production and design, vehicle maintenance and servicing, and restoration, particularly in situations where original components are no longer available or their procurement is economically unjustified. Furthermore, the paper presents a case study demonstrating the technical feasibility of additive manufacturing for the production of functional replacement parts in automotive maintenance and restoration.
